Will Debian install okay on a Lenovo Thinkpad E470?
Debian on Lenovo Thinkpad E470
Lenovo Thinkpad E470
Ordered from Lenovo early evening on a Thursday afternoon, arrived 11 days later on a Tuesday morning.
Used Windows to shrink the main partition and create a space for Debian.
Plugged in an ethernet cable and a USB stick with Debian GNU/Linux jessie netinst.
Turned it on, would not boot from the USB stick. In the BIOS settings, altered the boot order so USB devices were first. Still would not boot from the USB stick.
In the BIOS settings, under security, found Secure Boot and Disabled it.
Booted fine this time and clicked through the install.
Everything worked fine, except the wireless. The card is an Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 8265. The firmware can be downloaded from Intel, but the driver is not in the version 3 kernel that jessie uses.
Changed the apt source list to use stretch (in testing at this time), did an update and upgrade, and all now works fine.
