Birds

Many species of birds frequent our garden and the bush in Paekawakawa reserve.

Endemic (only found in New Zealand) and native (found naturally in New Zealand and also elsewhere) birds that have been sighted include:

• tui
• piwakawaka (fantails)
• riroriro (grey warblers)
• tauhou (silvereyes)
• ruru (moreporks)
• kotare (kingfishers)
• pipiwharauroa (shining cuckoo pigeons)
• kereru (wood pidgeon)
• kahu (Australasian harrier)
• kārearea (falcon)

• blackbird
• starling
• sparrow
• dunnock
• greenfinch
• goldfinch
• chaffinch
• thrush - not for a while
• California quail
• ordinary city pigeon

We also get sea birds fly overhead.

These include:
