Many species of birds frequent our garden and the bush in Paekawakawa reserve.

===== Endemic and Native =====

Endemic (only found in New Zealand) and native (found naturally in New Zealand and also elsewhere) birds that have been sighted include:
  * tui
  * piwakawaka (fantails)
  * riroriro (grey warblers)
  * tauhou (silvereyes)
  * ruru (moreporks)
  * kotare (kingfishers)
  * pipiwharauroa (shining cuckoo pigeons)
  * kereru (wood pidgeon)
  * kahu (Australasian harrier)
  * kārearea (falcon)

===== Introduced =====

  * blackbird
  * starling
  * sparrow
  * dunnock
  * greenfinch
  * goldfinch
  * chaffinch
  * thrush - not for a while
  * California quail
  * ordinary city pigeon

===== Seabirds =====

We also get sea birds fly overhead.

These include:
  * black backed gull
